What is API SP?
API SP is the American Petroleum Institute gasoline engine oil spec introduced in 2020. It adds protection against low-speed pre-ignition (LSPI) in turbo direct-injection engines, timing chain wear and deposits, and replaces older specs such as API SN.
How is HX8 5W-40 different from HX7 5W-40?
HX8 5W-40 is fully synthetic, while HX7 5W-40 is semi-synthetic (synthetic technology). Shell Thailand lists both as API SP and ACEA A3/B4.
