What is API SP?
API SP is the American Petroleum Institute gasoline engine oil spec introduced in 2020. It adds protection against low-speed pre-ignition (LSPI) in turbo direct-injection engines, timing chain wear and deposits, and replaces older specs such as API SN.
What is Clings-Locks-Protects?
It is Castrol MAGNATEC's technology. The maker says its molecules stay on engine parts even when the engine is off and lock into a protective layer, so the engine is protected from start-up and through warm-up.
How is MAGNATEC 10W-40 different from GTX 10W-40?
Both are semi-synthetic 10W-40 oils. MAGNATEC 10W-40 is rated API SP and focuses on Clings-Locks-Protects start-up wear protection; GTX 10W-40 is rated API SN and focuses on Catch-Control-Clean sludge protection.
